Any advice on the different forms of multiplayer civ - play by email &c.
Are games between humans feasible?

btw, I'm getting pretty good at this game. Reckon I could kick most of your
asses out there.

How's that for laying down the gauntlet? 🙂

Of course!
Depends on which expansions you have / or not have, MP would play a bit
different.

If you're just getting good against AIs, then you're not ready yet. AIs are
pretty weak against the true Civ3 masters. See
forums.civfanatics.com, the various Civ3 sub-forums. People there beat the
highest difficulty level long time ago... and they're imposing various
restrictions on themselves while playing (e.g. always war, one city
challenge).

Visit www.civfantics.com... play some games (succession/game of the month)
there... you'll find a lot of worthy opponents there.

I'm not advertising... I'm just a normal member of the site. But I can tell
you it's THE site to frequently visit, if you like the Civilization series.

What about when you are NOT very good but just want to play with friendly
people? I am personaly not good enough to be interesting for high level
players, but I would like to try a multiplayer game anyway... Is there a way
to do that?

I noticed many of the games when I went were set up for regent level. I was
hoping for a friendly game too but it seemed like everyone took things
pretty seriously.

You can start a new game... state your expectation of the game.

Start a new thread at the MP forum:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=87

Then post a reply to the MP games registry thread (read the first post
there):

I am not a high level Civ3 player too... still lose on regent level. I am
practicing to get better :)
Due to timezone (Hongkong), I usually cannot MP with others... but I am
available for PBEM games.

Another limitation is that my Civ3 CD has a crack in its inside ring... so I
made a copy - while I can reinstall with the copy, I cannot start the
vanilla game. So I only play Conquest and Play the World only (the 2 CDs are
very healthy *touch wood* :)

Yeah I guess I could try it that way. I was dragged to the online game by
someone from IRC but when I feel up to trying it again I might do it that
way. Thanks.

I have not tried PBEM but have wanted to.
