Hi all - Hopefully i have posted this in the correct forum.

System spec:

Intel Quad Core Q8200
Asus P5Q-E motherboard
8gb Ram (4 x 2gb) (Kingston - kvr800d2n6/2g)
Zotac GTX 650Ti 1 gb graphics card
SB0790 PCI Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme
750w psu
2 x Dvd Drives

Starting getting random bsod - (mostly page fault in nonpaged area & page fault in nonpaged area)
I ran memtest on the ram and chkdsk on the hdd. Eventually got to a point where it won't even boot up into safe mode.

In case it was the hdd drive playing up i had a new one sat around so i've been trying to do a fresh install on that. However when trying to do so i am getting one of 3 bsod:

page fault in nonpaged area
irql not less or equal
ntfs.sys page fault in nonpaged area (only occurred once)

The bsod of death occurs when windows installer is expanding files - the most i have seen expanding files get upto is around 60% but usually get the bsod before 10%.

I have removed the sound card and have only been using 1 stick of ram per attempt to try and see if it is the ram which is faulty.

Any information/help going forward would be much appreciated :)

Hi,

You said you try with only one stick at the time, did you get anything different with one or the other ?
Since you tried on a new hard drive and have the same error means most like not it.

I am suspecting a bad motherboard, bad PSU or CPU overheating.
Could also be a bad installation dis or DVD drive

Easiest, try with a known working psu.

For the cpu / motherboard, it will be harder to test though.
Check the heat sing to be sure it's well seated and that you cleaned and reapply thermal paste.

No - tried multiple times with each stick as well as trying in different slots in the the motherboard

I will check the heat sink tomorrow and try again with installing vista. I'll also try removing the dvd drives in turn to ensure its not them causing the fault.

Don't have a spare psu to test with - If the problems still occur will most likely look at having it diagnosed/repaired by a local professional or if not cost effective maybe saving up for a new machine.

Many thanks for your help
