Hi,

Today i've experienced three BSOD's which seem to have different causes while running Windows 10 Pro. The computer was running fine until yesterday. Since yesterday i did two things i changed RAM sticks from 2x16GB to 2x32GB to 2x8GB (all Corsair LPX pairs) and i installed the 21H2 update for Windows. I now wonder what the problem is the RAM or the Win update or something else?

Hardware:
Intel 9900K
ASUS Z390-F Gaming (BIOS 2004 is up to date)
iGPU UHD 630
Corsair Vengeance LPX CMK16GX4M2B3000C15 (runs at 2133)
PSU BeQuiet (can't remember/see what model exactly because of the case)

What i tested so far (currently 2x8GB RAM installed)
  1. memTest86 (ran a full pass)
  2. sfc /scannow
  3. checkdisk
  4. disabled fast startup
  5. disabled XMP in BIOS
Everything looks good so far. Drivers look up to date too. No idea what other things i could test.

Any ideas?

If it does it at stock settings it could be a few reasons:

1.) RAM needs more voltage, check the specs to be sure.
2.) RAM is bad.
3.) CPU is bad/needs more voltage.
4.) Chipset is failing/needs more voltage.

its unlikely the ram is bad but it could be voltages.

voltage was sort of where I was leading with Prime. Rounding errors, if you were to have them, can be fixed adjusting voltage on CPU or RAM. Only increase one at a time, and by a small increment.

Thank you very much. This is very helpful. I think it hints to RAM needs more voltage, since the RAM itself seems to be ok. When i enable XMP the RAM is operating at higher voltage, so it would seem logical. I'll probably never know for sure though. I'm contemplating getting a new CPU/MOBO and leave it at this. I mean i already lost many hours to this. I'm currently trying to provoke a BSOD with XMP enabled. If i get no more crashes it is what it is: XMP must be enabled.

XMP settings don't increase voltage on CPU, I was just wondering since the memory controller is on CPU.

You tried 2 different ram sets, does the xmp thing apply to both? errors in stock but none in xmp?

it might be motherboard as well.

I also got BSOD's when i had another RAM kit installed (2x8G). I even think i started to get BSOD's when i disabled XMP a few days ago. Before i simply had it on all the time and never noticed a potential problem. I'm just unsure if i want to trace the issue down any further at this point. I'm not in the mood to resinstall other RAM kits again and do more tests. I also think it's probably a motherboard issue.
