Multiple Different GPU's possible for gaming?

So, I'm planning to do an upgrade for my computer. I'd like to add GTX 1050 TI into my rig but there is currently a 950 in there too.
Adding the 1050 would cause pancaking but it would boost my total VRAM up to 6GB's. I'd like to know if this upgrade will work. Will the two cards be able to work together in boosting game performance? I've been researching this for 2 hours now and haven't found a solid answer yet

Yes and no as the 2 cards can't SLI. DX12's multi GPU tho may allow this at some point.
