Hi everyone,

I plan on purchasing gtx 980 in the next couple months in the process of building a new rig. I am currently running 3 monitors off of 2 Sli GTX 560 Ti, and was curious about a configuration when i building my new desktop. (edit: with 3 monitors the sli must be off, but to game i turn it on and use just 2)

I am aware the 980 and 560 are incompatible for Sli, but I was wondering if i could use a 980 as a primary with only a ROG SWIFT PG278Q 27-inch 2560 x 1440 144hz monitor and then use my 560's to run my second and third monitors or as a PhysX dedicated processor. What I am planning is getting the 980 and monitor now, and upgrading this rig until i can get my 5960x and mobo.

If this is feasible, would it be possible to run the 980 and then the 560's in Sli (i doubt this would work but these questions are fairly difficult to google).

The question is a bit old but still....

This page can show you how to handle multi monitor solution and describes it really well.

First you will notice that series 2/4/5 requires 2 way sli to run 2d surround mode, which you actually have now and in this case you could run all 3 monitors (some tweaking required).
Also you will notice that from 6 series up you can have 2d surround mode even with a single card, up to 5760x1080 which is 3xFHD displays, but that depends of the GPU outputs, so technically it is possible to run all of your 3 monitors over a single 980 card.
So it is possible to run 980 with those 560's in sli but in that case the only reason of sli...

So it is possible to run 980 with those 560's in sli but in that case the only reason of sli would be to use it for gaming while 980 would be used for accessory display which would be a waste of horsepower.

Now about using 560's for PhysX:

It is quite interesting idea but is it worth additional power from the plug?
