Hi, I have my own website and can see how many people have visited my site. It also shows the I.P. address. I have noticed that whenever I go onto my website, it shows a different I.P. address. Is this normal?
A different IP address than what? The website will show you the external IP it sees, which is probably what the ISP assigned to your router (the IP on the WAN port), the IP you see on your computer would be what the router has assigned to your PC, should start with 192.x.x.x
Hi, thanks for your reply. It shows a different I.P. address than the last time I was on the site, so basically every time I go onto my website, it shows a different I.P. address. Some times it starts with 192..., but not always.
The IP would be dynamic from the ISP, although it usually does not change much, but that could depend on the ISP. You can check what your external IP shows up as form here http://www.whatismyip.com/ The IP you see there should match what your web site sees.
Any address that starts with a 192 indicates a local network. Depending on how the website is hosted, it might be picking up both the local network address and the "true" IP address of your PC.
