Some time ago, I purchased a low capacity WD EX4100 NAS for personal and work data.
I am close to running out of space.
the obvious solution would be to buy larger drives to put in it..
BUT what would interest me more is purchasing a second MyCloud NAS if both MyClouds could be accessed simultaneously as if they were a single device?

Solution
There is no way to do that. They are independent devices. There is no way to "spill over" when one gets full. They can both be accessed simultaneously, but they will never know about each other. You will have twice the admin to do -- logins, permissions, etc.

does anyone have any experience with Volume Virtualization?

under "Storage" there is an option for Volume Virtualization. the description reads:
Volume virtualization simplifies scalability by enabling you to map to other iSCSI targets and present them as volumes on your My Cloud system.
