Multiple of the same controllers in the same usb splitter

So my PC and My TV are in the same room, and I think it would be fun to run a HDMI cable to my TV, and a USB for controllers.

but, if I were to attach a 4 way USB splitter to the end of the USB cable to hook controllers up to, would my PC be able to distinguish the individual controllers, or would it read them all as one?
