Hi everyone,

Three months ago I bought a new system. Since then I've only had trouble with the thing. I have built PC's before so I doubt I have done anything wrong. (Installation / cable wise). But I guess it's a possibility.

My parts:
Intel Core i5-4690
ASRock Fatal1ty B85 Killer
MSI Radeon R9 390 8GB Gaming
WD Blue WD10EZEX, 1TB
TP-Link TL-WDN4800
Corsair Vengeance LP CML16GX3M2A1600C10
Cooler Master V550 Semi-Modular
Fractal Design Define R5 case

First issue:
Crashing during first boot up. Error messages which came up (I've seen all of them come by): page fault in non-paged area. Memory management error. I had a third error as well but I forgot the name.
I have checked my memory (16gb ddr3) with the Windows memory checking tool. Everything's fine. I have checked my HDD, smart status is GOOD.

Second issue:
My PC now keeps giving error messages from time to time at first boot up. Now it barely works the first and second boot ups.
Second or third boot ups it almost always works and I use the computer as normal.
First boot up loads normally, I see the motherboard screen and then the PC shuts itself down. Takes around 3-10 seconds. Varies.

Third issue:
I have switched from a Cooler Master N300 case to the Define R5 yesterday. Did all the installation as safe as possible. Turned everything off etc etc. Now my HDD is making a chirping sound when seeking. It is very very annoying, it goes through the sound dampening material of the R5 case. Is this normal? Or should I RMA it straight away?

Thank you for all the help you can give me. I have never had so many issues with a PC before. It's very frustrating. I just have to find out which parts of my PC are faulty and get new ones. I am guessing it's either the PSU, the motherboard and/or the HDD.

My first suggestion would be to flash the bios with the most recent version and also maybe reload your operating system and see what happens try those then get back to me if either works, I can understand you not wanting to re load the operating system so just go for a bios flash and see if anything improves!

Alright thanks guys I will try to update the BIOS and I'll do a repair of the OS. If that doesn't work I'll format and reinstall the OS. I'll get to work and let you know.

I sadly don't have a spare PSU 🙁

yeah let us know what happens, but it may be that you have to replace the PSU I was thinking your graphics card may be drawing too much power but it only takes 275w so it shouldn't be a problem, let me know what happens with the bios update I will be back on in an hour or so and I will try and assist you however I do not feel that a repair or clean install of windows will have much success but I may be wrong as long as it does not cost to re install it go for it!

Alright I've updated my BIOS and it hasn't crashed or shut down at the first few boot ups I have tried. So good news! I will wait until tomorrow morning though. Usually it does all kinds of weird stuff after I've left it off for a couple of hours.

Do you have any tips on the HDD? Is it normal that you can hear the HDD straight through a R5 case whilst browsing? I'm almost certain it isn't, because I haven't heard this super super annoying sound before when I had a Cooler Master N300 case. Which has holes in it everywhere and no sound dampening material.

Glad to hear about the progress!

If your HDD is constantly running at or near 100% and doing a lot of clicking, it may be going bad. You may want to check it with HD SENTINEL or your favorite HDD diagnostic program.

Okay so I have updated my BIOS to the newest version. I have also formatted my HDD and reinstalled my OS (windows 8). Today it again shut itself down on the first boot up. Second boot up was fine and I am typing on the PC right now!

I see the motherboard screen as normal, then it goes to the windows 8 icon with a loading 'circle' screen. I see that for 2 to 3 seconds and then it turns off. Nothing. Then I turn it on again and it boots up as normal.

Any tips?

Still sounds like a PSU problem to me, but if you don't have or can't get a spare, it's an expensive gamble to buy one for testing.

Sorry that I'm not more help.
