Hi guys.

So I've the following in my rig:

Motherboard: MSI 970 Gaming Motherboard This one
CPU: AMD FX4300 Black Edition Quad-Core This one
SSD: Kingston HyperX 240GB This one
RAM: G.Skill Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) This one (I think)

Right, now you know my basic rig, it's now the problems I'm having.

It first started when I was trying to install Ubuntu 15.10 along side WIndows 10. Whilst doing so, it completes fine, no issues. I was initially able to boot into both ubuntu AND windows through grub.

Except when I booted into Ubuntu, I'd get the following error during the boot:

AMD-Vi: Event logged [IO_PAGE_FAULT device=03:00.0 domain=0x0011

So that's problem number one which I've not figured out yet. Even so, I googled it and they kept saying about enabling IOMMU in the BIOS.

I try to look in the BIOS to try and find this IOMMU and was unable to find it at all. So I automatically think it's probably due to an outdated BIOS, so I go to MSIs site and download (what I think) is the latest BIOS for the mobo and continue to flash it (Huge mistake).

After the Flash, I decided to do more digging and finally found the IOMMU option in the CPU configuration part of the BIOS and enabled it to 64mb and restarted. Unfortunately, here's where problem number two comes in. It only boots into Windows.

OK, I thought, I'll re-install Ubuntu onto the SSD and try again. The first attempt, the computer turned off.. Abruptly.

RIght, I thought, and didn't think anything of it (because I'd enabled OC Genie, so I disabled it again). I tried again and it went by successfully.

Reboot... WIndows 10 again.... I looked into the BIOS at what is booting first, it says ubuntu, with windows boot loader second.

Also, when I tell Windows to reboot, the pc turns off... What?

So... My question here is in two parts:

1) What is happening with the boot priority? Why is it booting into Windows 10 only when there is ubuntu there too?
2) Was updating the BIOS a really, really bad idea and is it the cause of the issue?

and as a bonus if you can answer it (but it doesn't need to be, I can go to ubuntu forums for it... The first error?)

Thanks guys, and sorry for the super long thread but as they say, the more information... the better!

I've literally just read that, anyway... Secure boot isn't the issue. It's disabled in the bios... It's the first thing I disable xD

Also, Ubuntu is signed as bootable afaik
