First off I have a 3tb hdd I haven’t used in a long time that doesn’t have any mission critical data I would like to recover data off of. It’s an external 3tb Seagate drive which turns out housed the nortorious hdd they got sued over for bad reliability, it fails the generic short and long tests on seatools and windows 10 thinks it needs to be formatted to be used. Recurva does not work as it believes it needs to be formatted as well, any good software tools preferably free will allow me access to the data out there?
Not related to the above but I am tempted to setup a raid 1 hdd for booting with primocache SSD caching. I am currently using SSD caching with my 2tb hdd that I boot from and am quite happy with the results and am quite familiar with its downsides. So with that in mind and I’m contemplating drives between 4-8tb are there any you would recommend and ones you would recommend I stay away from?
Having never done Raid before would the ideal way to do this to do a hardware Raid 1 and than clone the old 2tb drive to the new Raid drives assuming that’s possible.
