At work I am looking to add a wireless router very far away from the primary one. Due to a few walls being in the way I can't bring Ethernet out of the room with the primary router in it. So I am wondering if I can use a router, to act as a reciever only, just outside the room with the primary router and link that with the third router I plan to use as an access point via ethernet. I know this is an odd situation and I'm not entirely sure how feasible it is but any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time.

Yes that will work as long as the second router can act as a client bridge. You are building a repeater but by using a different device you do have the major issue of losing 1/2 your bandwidth like the stupid 29.99 cheap repeaters do. Those use the same radio chip to talk to the main router as well as the end clients.

You want to use different radio channels for your router 3 AP and the connection you use between router 1 and router 2.

If you can get a strong signal on router 2 it should work fine. If you do not already have the router 2 you may be better off buy a outdoor bridge since it is directional and it is designed to function as a bridge and tends to be a little cheaper because you are not paying for the extra router...
