Mushkin RAM dual channel not working

I have a 16gb kit of Mushkin RAM (2 x 8GB) 1600mhz. I tried installing these in a dual channel config on my gigabyte 990fxa ud3 (rev 3) and the system is working fine but in computer properties is says 16GB of RAM install but only 8GB is usable.

On task manager it looks like the system only is using 8GB of Ram

What do I need to do to fix this? I currently have it in a single channel config and it shows 16GB but dual channel will give me a little bit extra performance

Your mobo - http://www.gigabyte.com.au/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3894#sp - is dual channel ram.

Make sure you ram is in the right slots - per your mobo manual.

What is the version of Windows you've installed?

Windows Starter and Basic have a limit of 8 GB RAM.

If the OS isn't the problem, ensure you've installed the DIMMs into the correct slots, as instructed by i7Baby. Also ensure you've manually configured your RAM specs in the BIOS to match the specs on the sticker/packaging.
