Going to upgrade my 4 year old system. So pondering on a few alternatives for a music production workstation build on which I'm going learn some video editing too, so as to make my own videos( maybe 4k videos down the line but for the times sake only 1080 videos). So any suggestions regarding the build would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Budget: US$ 1500 ~ 2000.
Bonus question: Should I wait for Skylake? 😛

If you wait for skylake it will be better, we still don't know how good it is, but for now this is good, it has a i7 5820k 3.3ghz 6 core processor and 32gb of ram and a r9 390x 8gb can handle 4k videos, if you can pay 2130$, get the gtx 980ti... :)

You don't need to spend nearly that much to do a audio / video processing machine. Maybe if you were gaming or modeling, but for what you are after the build below is more than enough. The Xeon will give you i7 performance with hyperthreading enabled, two open memory slots in case you need more, SSD+HD, and a mid-level gaming GPU that will easily handle editing (heavy loads) and multiple monitors...
