Hey guys. So I made the mistake of telling my pal I'd build him a PC. Only for him to mention it was a music studio PC not a gaming PC. So with that I'm a bit out of my depth... As I've only ever built 2-3 Gaming PCs before.

The software he's wanting to use is the latest version of Protools by Avid.

I've gotten as far as researching that speed is slightly more important than cores? (I think), so I'm tempted to recommend a 7700k or 8700k, and overclock. But because room acoustics are vitality important also I'm afraid I don't have the experience to decide on performance vs cooling and acoustics of an AIO. Or.. If maybe a Ryzen chip would be better value? I just don't know. Custom loops are a no no.

If anyone has any tips or could reference me a build on pcpartpicker I'd be eternally grateful.

As for budget, he won't say, but it's a case of keeping as much money for equipment as possible without impacting on performance.

Any help would be amazing.

I would look at the ProTools forums. Some DAW's have a CPU brand preference.

As far as him saying he won't say what his budget is, tell him you need to know or he can go somewhere else.
