Must you except any important update?
I have found out an up date for my computer isn't for security reasons, can I unchecked the box and not install it? this is the up date Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847) x86 on my windows vista

Yes, you can choose not to install the updates. But they will always show up on the list every time you start your pc. But, I would ask the question why you would not install them? Okay, they are not critical, but most updates help with compatibility and/or security flaws. So it's always a good thing to install them. Unless there is a specific reason you have not to install them you should go ahead and do it.

I just restored my computer with the disk that came wit it , It is now running great so I was curious why my d drive is blue in other works empty, I have had a little pop up box ask me to format this d drive , and I also got the update I sent you , at the same time so I wasn't sure if I should format the d drive first or let the update install first , what do you think I should do? thanks

I'm not exactly sure what you mean. Unless you are doing a re-install of the OS you should not have to format any drive. Be careful.

With regard to the update, just install it. If you have problems, you can undo the update install. Or do a complete OS installation, but then you will have to update ALL windows drivers which can take hours.

edit: actually looking at your post, it would appear that you have done a restore of the OS, meaning you have wiped all data off your drive. Its a fresh install of Windows, and will require you to install all windows updates from scratch. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, I do a fresh install every 6 months or so.

After installing the OS from scratch, I install all drivers (updated) then all windows updates. Once that is all complete, then I install games/programs which I would normally use.

how do you update the drivers , I have don't it in computer management where I pull up all the drivers then click on each one and choose update from internet , is this the only way to do it ?

Hi Keith
what I meant was you know when you click on properties of a disk drive, you get a pie image ,and its either pink or blue , blue is the free space on it , well mine is totally free , so when it asks me to format it should I or leave it ?

sounds like its been formatted already. Is this the same drive that windows is on? or a separate partition, or a separate drive. If windows is on it, don't format it.

Hi Kieth
its the smaller partition with nothing on it that's completely empty on drive [D], the [C] drive has everything on it that's all of windows vista on it [note] I haven't received any notifications anymore to format it , I don't know what would happen if I did , and my computer has never ran better since I did a complete restore with the widows vista disk that came with the computer

well then, if it's empty then it would be okay to format it. but you may not need to it might be formatted already. Yes, normally after a fresh install of windows, it feels much snappier and quicker in general. In normal use, after time, windows gets full of old files/drivers/invalid registry entries/non- essential start up items, and backround services. It can become very slow if you don't manage it and keep on top of it. A fresh install clears it all out, and you just have the OS and nothing else. Well, enjoy your new found speed :) And don't forget to select the most helpful answer :)
