I really enjoy this game. But there's a few things that I don't understand.

1. Team Chemistry. I found this feature to be annoying. I wound up
turning it off. But is there some trick to keeping players happy?
There's no way to set a batter order so that a bench player can get at least
one game for every 10. I've read that giving the player a new contract can
help, or putting them on the trading block. But I still don't get the
results that I expect. This could have been an interesting feature, but
I'm missing something.

2. Pitcher fatigue. I was playing against the A/I in the playoffs. In
the 2nd inning I knocked out the starting pitcher. The relief pitcher
stayed in the rest of the game even though I scored another 10 runs and his
stamina was gone in the 7th. For the last 3 innings, pitches from him were
"dancing" all over the plate. Balls that looked like they were going to be
too high would suddenly dip and curve back for a strike at the last sec.
His pitches changed to a lot of knuckelballs! This happened to me later on
in the World Series. I would expect that if the pitcher got exhausted that
more of his pitches would wind up being reveled to the batter, his velocity
would go down, ....

EA dropped the ball on this; the "pitcher" should be penalized for staying
in too long. Not the "batter"!

3. Even though I set the pitch speed setting to the lowest value, I still
have a hard time reacting to pitches. Guess that's a problem with getting
older. I wish EA and other game companies would realize that some of us
Baby Boomers just don't have the eye/hand thingy we use to have. There
should be an Hard, Med, Easy, and Baby Boomer setting.

4. I've checked the manual, but it doesn't really explain the GamePlay
Tune values. For example, there's a setting that controls the "User Runner
Steal Delay" . But what value should I enter to boost my stealing bases?
A positive or negative number? Some values make sense like to increase
Batter Contact enter a positive number. But there's several others in the
list that I don't know what to enter.

Well I'll leave this here in case someone else doesn't know. But I just
found this web site which answers my questions.
http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/mvp_baseball_2004_sliders.txt

5. While batting is there a way to check the defensive alignment of the
infield/outfield? For example, I went to lay down a bunt on the 3rd base
line, but it wasn't until I actually bunted the ball that the screen finally
showed the 3rd baseman was in and guarding the line. Needless to say, I was
out. Another time, I wanted to hit a ball to the right side, but couldn't
tell where the Right Fielder was at.

5. Home runs. I wish the game showed balls being hit out of the park and
into the streets. However, if I happen to hit a really long home run, the
game just cuts the view off. Instead, let the player see balls landing on
the streets or in the bay.

And here's a list of features that I'd like to see in a later version.

1. Create a ballpark. It'd be fun to set up a ball park for your teams
strenghts. Add a fountain to the outfield. Have the fans right on 1st
and 3rd base lines. Make it an indoor or outdoor park.

2. Redo the replay camera viewing angles. I can't get the camera to do
a "high" birds eye view. (I better double check my manual).

3. Someone really needs to set down with some MLB defensive players and
come up with a fun way of playing defense. All the current games use pretty
much the standard view/camera/mechanics when it comes to fielding pop flys
or ground balls. The problem with this is the time it takes react to the
ball being hit, where its head, and what fielder the computer has decided
that you control. Seems like I get all of .0005 secs to understand that
the ball has been hit between 1st and 2nd, and I have control of the 1st
baseman.

An improvement might be: When the batter makes contact with the ball, show
the balls path with the current method. But only for a few secs. Just
enough to show whether the ball is a grounded or a fly ball, whether it was
hit to left side, up the middle, or right side. Then switch to the view of
the defense player that the ball is expected to be close to. Start with
the ball still in the pitchers hand. Show the ball being pitched and then
hit by the batter. But you can only move your player on defense once the
balls actually been hit.

4. Put the pitcher stamina/stats/info some where on the screen during
game play (in a corner out of the way). I keep having to pause the game to
see if the pitcher stamina is weaking. Same goes for the current batter.

Plus, it would be nice to check the stats on the opposing team during the
game (bench warmers, entire pitching staff, and the current lineup). But as
far as I can tell, there's very little in the way of stats that I can check
on during a game.

5. As a batter, I use the left analog stick on gamepad to hit balls where
I want. But there's been times where I want to hit a soft line drive over
2nd base. As far as I can tell there's no such option to hit for power,
normal, or weakly.

6. I don't think this feature is in the game, but maybe if a pitcher does
give up a home run (or runs), then make it so that he becomes a little
rattled and his control is a off until he starts to get strikes/outs.

Your suggestion for the new fielding control sounds very interesting.

I can imagine it in my head, and I love it.

It would slow the game down a little. But it would be very interesting to
chase down balls in the outfield and leap for a diving catch.. perhaps in
the first person view.. =0)

It would add some time to the game. The developers could do a couple of
things with it.

1. Make it an option for the player to turn on or off.
2. For the infield, the view could be from behind the defensive player
(3rd person view). It might be a more interesting game if I could actually
judge when to have a player dive (left or right) to stop a ground ball. In
the current method, I think its time to dive, but the ball either hits the
defensive guy in the belly or I miss it completely. Not much room for error
and so little time to judge it.
3. The same problem appears in the outfield. I rarely can tell if or
when I should have an outfielder dive for a short fly ball. Maybe the
solution would be to show a large cirlce where the ball is expected to land,
and as the ball get's closer, the circle gets smaller?

I've seen the A/I do a lot of diving catches, and one time it even with over
the fence to rob me of a homerun. But heck if I can judge distance, ball,
or timing in this sim to do it. If I do, its luck!

By the way, pitcher stamina is displayed right next to his pitch repertoire
in the game. Also, if you want to see the opposing team's bench players or
pitchers, all you have to do is go into the "Warm up pitchers", "Defensive
substitution", etc. sections, and under your team's logo, click the left or
right arrow to switch teams.
