I have a gtx 1660super, with a dp 1.2 connected to my main monitor the: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-27-Inch-Curved-Monitor-LC27RG50FQNXZA/dp/B07TGMC29J I can get the 240hz option when I create a custom resolution on the Nvidia control panel, but I can't tell the difference, anyone that was near me told me it looked the same, and I also did a couple of side by side tests with another monitor. On games, websites, whatever, my settings say that I am running 240hz, but it's not really 240. If anyone knows how to help pls reply. Also, when I check me native resolution, it says that I can only go up to 120hz.

Solution
DisplayPort 1.2 supports a maximum data rate of 17.28 Gbps. 1920 x 1080 x 24-bpp x 240 is 11,943,936,000 bits per second.

I think it's more than capable of handling 1080p 240Hz.

EDIT: Apparently there's some extra data required for blanking intervals, but even then 17.28 Gbps is more than enough to satisfy the extra bandwidth requirement
You are right. Iam not arguing with maths, they always tell the absolute truth. My search though showed results that 240Hz weren't available through DP 1.2 at 1080p BUT, when I looked further into them, they were including ALL 1080p and not just the standard 1920x1080. So they included also ultra wide resolutions or even bigger at 1080p. For example 2560x1080 which can achieve 208Hz max...

it was shipped with the monitor, and the monitor was advertised as 240hz soooo, I don't think it was meant to only support 120hz, also, on google says that 1.2 does support 240hz. Ill try getting another cable

I don't know what google you are using, but my search clearly shows DP 1.2 limited to 144Hz @ 1080p. You definitely need a DP 1.3 or higher to get 1080p@240Hz

it said so on my first search, but I went ahead and used a gbit/s calculator, and after I did the math, ima just get another cable and see. Thanks for the help, much appreciated!

Thank you so much kind sir, but I am still dubious on the matter of what I need to do, I don't understand. I thought I had a solution, but apparently, I do not. I am going to buy a different cable and see how that works out.

You also need to take into account the color depth, which I think should be 16bit. it ends up being 26.87 Gbps and actually the 1.2 bandwidth is DisplayPort 1.2 offers a maximum total bandwidth of 21.6 Gbps over its four lanes, and a maximum total data rate of 17.28 Gpbs.

I feel like color depth is very important here, because it is a major factor in bandwidth. Also, I don't know if my monitor has a true 1080p since its curved, and its supposed to be 16bit color depth. I feel like that is messing with the nvidia control panel, since when I got to hd mode, which is supposed to have 16bit color, it only lets me have 120hz. I AM GOING TO TRY ANOTHER CABLE, BUT IF IT DOESNT WORK, IM GOING TO RMA IT. Or I might as well refund it and buy another monitor.
