Question My 32 bit system doesn't recognise 4gb ram

Ok so I have a 4gb ram stick for my laptop that I purchased few days ago and today when I tried installing it on my 32 bit system and wouldn't show any display. Then I placed back the 3gb of ram that it has and it shows display. My laptop supports 64 bits and I was wondering if installing 64 bits will make my computer recognise the ram stick? I checked if they are compatible with my computer and they are.

64 bit only let's your pc recognize more than 4 gigs

if you put in an 8 it should only recognize 4

Yeah I did it works on a 64 bit but not on my 32 Bit. So does that mean. It only works on a 64 Bit? And can I install 64 bit on my system by resetting my pc from windows settings or do I need to do it by USB?
