My 5 1 sound system

well i have a small problem when i play music on my 5.1 system everything is ok but when i watch movies on windows media player and on media player classic i can hear everything coming from the subwoofer and the middle speaker what do i have to do to fix this problem i'm running on xp sp3 i have the k-lite codec pack

Your middle is supposed to be the speech speaker, or the actors speaker, so to speak, while everything else is supposed to be surround, the other four speakers and the sub.
My guess is your SW is somehow not sending signal to the surround speakers, which may just take a general inspection, making sure all your audio is set to 5.1 surround, including your windows etc setting, plus any HW and SW settings
