here is my problem. i just connected everything to my new board. i have it set for jumperless. i have a 1 ghz t-bird. when i turn the power on everything starts but about 6 seconds later everything shuts down. if i turn it off and restart it again about 3 seconds later it does the same thing. can someone please help

i'm assuming you have good cooling? (maybe a silly question though, but worth a shot, some other guy on this forum fired up his t-b without a fan or heatsink.... poor bastard)

or sounds like fsb is set too high... but you said you are going jumperless so probably not....

hmmm....

what kinda board and what are your other specs....

could be that your power supply is too small....

need more info... :)

Your chip is getting too hot. Make sure you have a good heatsink/fan that is made for T-birds, not the new flip-chip for pentiums. Make sure it is on properly.
Until you get a good heatsink/fan and make sure it is on properly, I wouldn't turn it on and off too much more.

I these guys are on the right track. Certainly you could find out if you're fast enough by going into the bios under the power tab and then hardware status? I don't know but the one that tells you your cpu temperature. If you see it going up pretty fast then you know you're in trouble - just pull the plug.

You can make your own fan by getting a good heat sink and a very powerful fan from an electronics distributor. The one on the market are pretty shitty.

the prev posts made me think of another thing...

to find out if it's cooling prob... boot up and go directly into the bios and check the cpu temp in the hardware moniter section. and just let it sit there. If the temp keeps rising higher and higher then pull the plug and it's a cooling prob. If it runs at a nice and cool temp and doesn't shut down, then it's something from the boot up (like fsb too high).

hope some of that helps
