my Acer laptop takes too long to boot from startup. It hangs for about 20-30 minutes before it opens up. But when it has opened, it works just fine.

It`s hard to say without having the laptop in hand and checking it.

Here`s what I can recommend:
1. A fresh OS re-install.
2. Replace the HDD of the laptop with an SSD - guaranteed improved speeds for start-up and all OS-related tasks.

My Acer aspire laptop started taking 20 minutes to start the post process AFTER I replaced a bad HDD with an SSD and did a fresh install of windows 7. It's super fast once it finally shows the windows logon screen. But after it displays the bios screen then it goes to a black screen with a blinking cursor for exactly 20 minutes. It is set to AHCI mode in the bios. I have also tried booting without the battery and it still does the same thing.
