my mother board on my mac book pro took a dive .It will cost around 500 to restore the unit, which is 6.5 years young. next year apple will not have parts for repair should other components expire. I would like to be able to view media from my hard drive)s) without connectivity to a lap top.
Is there a way to stream media via a wireless router through an ipad, to a samsung tv ,without going through itunes ?

thanks in advance for suggestions and remedy(ies)

You can get a pretty fast NEW laptop for $500, never mind repairing an old one for that much. MAC prices are funny.

The issue with the MAC drive is that it's probaly not formatted in a way that most media readers can read without converting the file system. To get around that you have a few steps to do. Note if the files are DRM protected that have to authenticate though iTunes, you can't do this.

Get an external drive enclosure, remove the drive from the laptop, install in the enclosure. Connect the drive to another MAC, copy out your files. Format the drive as FAT32. Copy the files back to the hard drive, hook up the drive to a network media player, another computer, a smart TV that can read hard-drive files, etc... and you're done.

If those things you want to play were bought from iTunes, you have to load them onto anther computer with iTunes and then burn them onto a disk or something and convert those to a non-DRM format like DIVX or xVID or a similar standard that is usable on many devices.

Hang-the-9- ,

Thanks for your time , suggestion and consideration.
I can wrap my head around your solution; the $500 computer sounds good !
As for removing the mac drive; looks like I'll be investing time and learning / developing skills for future projects ! The (on-line) instructional vid's should 'walk' me through the process.
It would be much easier if,.. I just won the lotto ! ;->

I'll post my progress, when I start the operation.
Thanks again !
