My asus laptop is too slow to use

My Asus laptop is running very slow. I am a teacher and use it primarily for work. I have windows 8, I am going to run virus protection and clear history, but what else is there to do? Has upgrading to windows 10 made these issues better or worse? I'd appreciate any insight.

Windows 10 is what 8 and 8.1 were supposed to be so go for the upgrade but only after you've made all the malware checks. When you've finished the upgrade, go into Settings>Privacy and reverse all the defaults in every sub-section.

When you've settled in and have no intention to revert to 8.1, run CleanMgr in an Administrative Command Prompt and all the junk and duplicates will be removed, including the folder c:\windows.old.
