My Asus Maximus VII Hero showing Q-Code 00 or D0

Hello all,

I recently purchased this motherboard and assembled my computer in November of 2014. I did not have disc drive available when I was doing this build. Instead, I installed all of my drivers via the Asus website.

Before attempting the following, my motherboard Q-Code was reading A0, as it should.

Last week, I thought it might be a good idea to get a USB Optical Drive and try and run the Asus Motherboard Driver Disc just in case I missed any that could not be found online, and install the software included on the disc.

I had all of the drivers but after installing the software I realized that my Q-Code no longer reads A0, but either 00 or D0 instead.

I have read my user manual and it says that the Q-Code 00 is "Not Used" and that D0 is "CPU Initialization Error" and this worries me.

My computer seems to be running without an issue, so I am unsure of what to think of this. In AISuite 3, it says all of the cores are running at the stock overclock of 4.4GHz and my temps are significantly low under load and idle. Idling, the computer is about 25 - 30 Celsius and under load it reaches about 40.

The only other thing that could have done something is that I switched my Power Settings from "High Performance" to "Balanced" because I have a 1500W PSU and I wanted to save a bit of energy.

Before trying to put it back into High Performance mode, will this have any negative effects if I leave it in that state? I am a car guy and I know that running your car at the max it can handle for a period of time can wear things down, and things may need replacing. Will I be running through CPU's?

One more thing to note, when I power on my PC, the Q-Code runs through its regular cycle. Towards the end of the boot, it reads AE then A0, and then after my profile begins to load it goes to 00. This leads me to believe that software might be causing this.

Thanks,

Hutcheh!

Hello Dee Kay, thanks for the input.

After pressing and holding the Clear CMOS button on the Mobo for 30 seconds, the computer automatically boots. All of my settings were defaulted so I tried to put the voltage up to 1.9 but this did not solve the problem. Am I doing it right? If not, how can i press the Clear CMOS button and have the computer remain off?

I think I will try to uninstall programs and restart my PC one at a time. As I mentioned beforehand, A0 would be the Q-Code i would receive before I installed all of the Asus Software.

Remove the battery to make sure that you have reset your pc to the default values. I prefer making timing changes directly in BIOS instead of using the AI utility. Use the settings that AI recommends and see if it makes a difference.

That may be just what you need if the settings aren't holding. You may have to play a little with the voltages but don't go higher than the AI suggests or you can end up with a system that may not boot or possibly even fry components. If you haven't already tried, switch your power settings to try both high and balanced see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for the help, I found the solution to my problem.

Silly me thinking that Asus auto fan tuning wouldn't have negative effects.

Here is what I did to get A0 again.

1. Set Fan Xpert to full speed in Ai Suite 3
2. Disable Xtreme Quiet
3. Restarted my PC and enetered the BIOS
4. In fan tuning within the BIOS, set the speed to max
5. Save and restart, still saw 00 code
6. Restarted PC again and now I have A0

I can set the fan speeds within Ai Suite 3 without throwing the 00 Code, I just cant enable the auto fan tuning or it will throw the code.

Had the exact same problem basically, tried this by setting fan expert to full speed and disabling xtreme quiet, then just restarted, entered bios, made no changes, and now i have no more 00 code, just AO, thankyou so much I was really worried after reading about the 00 code but then wondered how i was able to boot up, post, be in windows, etc. It seems as though Asus' AI Suite is the issue here and could be for many others. Thanks Again!
