i bought a gtx 960 yesterday to upgrade my gpu from gtx 550 ti but there is no performance improvements instead its lagging more than before.what maybe the problem.help me.thanks in advance

Solution
okay good just don't want you making an easy mistake :D
okay we'll check one more software to confirm it is MSI afterburner:
http://www.hwinfo.com/

It is a lot more comprehensive. But you basically need to check the 'sensor status' and check those figures with OHM and msi afterburner.

Download msi afterburner and see the gpu load while gamign. If the gpu load falls ex from 80% to 0% or 10% while gaming than the psu is causing this.I had the same problem and changed my psu.

Your processor is 6 years old, you've got a tier 4 PSU, if it is an old one probably degraded and probably not performing well enough and causing you issues.
Seems weird though, as the gtx 550ti specs for power are:
Maximum Graphics Card Power (W): 116 W
Minimum System Power Requirement (W): 400W

and the gtx 960 is:
120 Graphics Card Power (W) 120 W
Minimum Recommended Power (W) 400W

So it isn't breking the bank, but regardless you wasn't going to get much performance gain as i presume your CPU is probably bottlenecking your performance

Check if your gpu load drops whole time than the psu, drivers or something else can be rpoblem.I played Batman AK and i had lag as hell i mean from 60 to 5FPS and than i sow the gpu load from 99% drops to 5%...Some electrolyte was leaking from the psu.

so will upgrading my cpu and motherboard fix this problem?and you sure the main culprit is the cpu bottlenecking the gpu?

i checked just now nothing is leaking from my psu and yes the performance in witcher 3 is dropping from 30 fps to 10 fps after some moment.

not 100% sure but it happens to alot of gamers, download MSI afterburner and check how much of the GPU is being utilised while in game you can go on the ettings and click on 'OSD' which is on screen display, and you can show many things, while in game, frame rate, temp of cpu, temp of gpu, % of cpu cores being used and gpu etc and tell us what the % gpu is being used while in game, before upgrading

not very good and my idle is around normal 32 so maybe its a mis calculation.
if my card is overheating shouldnt it overheat in idle also?

Hoping its reading it wrongn, use open hardware monitor and watch your temperature.
It's hard to pinpoint the real problem, because I would say it is the cpu slowing you down but I don't want to diagnose S that and you replace and not much performance gain. But it is my best diagnoses to be honest

You are CPU bottlenecked. Pure and simple. You need a new motherboard and a new CPU. Even a lowly AMD Athlon 860K would tremendously help performance.

Actually, an Athlon 860K is all that's needed to max out the 960 performance. Either that or buy a more expensive i3.

Whatever you do, know that your GPU is currently useless until you buy new motherboard and CPU. No way around it. Your PSU is fine, just so you know.
