here's my attempt at a console killer/replacement at the end of 2019.
The general purpose and idea behind this is simple.
Must cost no more than $500 retail.
Must be wireless capable along with Bluetooth.
Must perform at least the same as current gen consoles at 4K (PS4 Pro and Xbox One X)
(I know this one is a little different because on console games are optimized to upscale, dynamically switch resolutions, and even checkerboard)
And naturally, you would connect this to an existing TV and you would use a controller (which a lot of people already have and just like a console)
I just wanted to share this and get some conversation going about different component choices and ways to go about building such a thing.
So feel free to leave your feedback and even your own builds.
Let's see if we can't get variants for other countries and their currency with same pricing to what a console costs in another country.
I live in the US so my build is US based.
Lastly, it would be important that if you were to build your own version, that you don't go pairing a newer gen CPU with an older gen board that doesn't ship with an updated BIOS since it would have to work out of the box and not need a BIOS update prior to putting in a CPU.
The builds don't need to include a Windows 10 license since not buying one doesn't stop you from being able to fully use the OS for gaming.
And removing the watermark is simple enough with free tools out there that remove the watermark but don't activate so you still can't use the personalization settings.
Anywho, here's what I've put together so far. Hope you like it
(P.S. - Due to the choices I had to make for the motherboard, I had to add a fan hub since this board only has one system fan header, but great thing is, with the header, once could spend whatever amount they wanted for up to three additional fans since the case supports it)
(oh, and I went with the cheapest wireless mouse/keyboard combo to stick with the living room wireless thing. Since gaming would be done with a controller the mouse and keyboard only needed to be there for setting things up and basic inputs)
