But still IMO the HD 5770s should have been replaced with atleast HD 5830 or HD 5850 if it is a gaming PC...
You could have saved some money on the mobo, PSU - you wont need 1200W at all(unless you plan to run 2x HD 5970s) and with the saved money got more powerful graphics card...

good answer i see, i had the 1000w orderd but had to replace with that..also i had 3 5770 wich replaced for 3 xxx but had no crossfire ,so replaced with 2 xxx in cross fire nd put cooling on it as the cards were bottle necked by my cpu lol the i7 bottle necked my graphics cards when it was stock but now work to full potential reaches 27137 on 3d mark vantage can play anything on extreme with no bumps at all

^ Hmm...but really when you go even more extreme - Eyefinity, then you would notice that the HD 5770s will have a hard time keeping upto that resolution...
Just cutting where you had gone overboard would have easily got you HD 5850s IMO...
It is still a good build but I wont say it is the best for that money though - dont take me wrong...

The reason i chose the UD7 board for this build is because it was the only board with '333' that supported 3 way crossfire from my supplier.

The XFX 5770 xxx edition have eyefinity. They are factory over-clocked. The original plan was to have 3 x 5770xxx in 3-way crossfire, but the supplier stuffed up, they assured me that these cards were 3 way compatible and they weren't .

Also the price difference between the 1000w and 1200w corsair truepower is only about $10inc so i'm not sure about what money you were talking about saving. Even if i had downgraded this power supply and the board to a UD5 or UD3 board that didn't support the 3 way crossfire it would not have been enough money for me to upgrade his cards to 5850's as they were almost double the price per unit of the 5770 xxx edition that i got on special.

^ I guess you had built that PC for the OP...
Well even the UD5 and UD3R can run 3 way crossfire...not sure from where you got the info only the UD7 does that...
http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/gigabyte_ga_x58a_ud3r/7.htm

And as for the PSU, even an 850W PSU can run 3x HD 5770s without any issues...And those are cheaper by atleast $100...
And also it is generally advisable not to go beyond 2 cards either in SLI/ Crossfire because of driver and scalability issues and also less cards mean less heat and power...
So for that money, 2x HD 5850s would have been a better option for sure...And the performance would be very good...
And I can see that you are not this criticism in a good way...

850PSU unit running mobo, 4 x 3.5" HDD's, 1 x SSD, 3 x 5770, H50 Cooling, Bluray burner, UV lights, fans etc??

And paying double for each card for the sake of another 4,000 3D mark points?? That doesn't really sound like value for money to me.

It's not that i don't take critisism well, it's just that i made all these considerations when building the system on the budget given and discounted them. I know people with UD3 boards and they are not as stable as the extreme boards under heavy overclock. I got his UD7 up to 4.18Ghz stable under stress at 45 degrees.

It makes alot more sense to me to give him a high-end base for his system and compromise on the parts that he is likely to upgrade in future anyways (And that are easily upgradable). We are talking about someone who is an xbox gamer and has never had a gaming PC. So honestly a 3D mark Vantage score of 27,194 for his first system is pretty bloody good for what he paid.

You might want to pick up an Antec spot cooler for your northbridge. It's going to get exceptionally hot with you running that H50.

Nice rig, not the choices I would have made across the board but still a solid build.

@bornofsin how did you check how much power you need ?
check the power requirements once here...With say i7 at your specified speeds - 4.18GHz + 4HDDs + 2 DVDs + 2x HD 5850s + 5 LED 120MM fans + An additional PCIe x4 card(say sound card or any other add-on card) + Fan controller + Front bay card reader with 25% capacitor aging, gives a total of about ~750W -> Peak - which is very much not possible to achieve even when playing games @ max settings...So an 850W PSU has enough headroom for that setup...
http://www.antec.outervision.com/PSUEngine

And going above 3.66GHz-3.8GHz for the i7 doesnt have much advantages...only increases the power consumption drastically...And what is the point of just getting some high score on a benchmark ??? The daily usage is what matter IMO...
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/overclock-core-i7,2268-13.html

And also just $10 more than the 850TX, you can get the 950TX...

You are telling me i should have gotten a shitty UD3 board so he could get graphics card with minimal performance increase that are twice the price? Save $100, then Spend $300 more?!?!?

And then tell me i should have purchased a power supply that was $35ex cheaper than the one i got to save money? And that going to 4.18Ghz doesn't have much advantage yet 3,000 points on a video card does? I mean this in the nicest way possible but, you're an idiot.

There is a saying that goes 'Don't argue with idiots, they drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.'

So on that note: I'm done with this conversation.

He was thinking they were talking about a single 5850 vs 2 x 5770 ... and with the system overclocked the 2 x 5770 did perform better than a 5970 in the same 'non o/c' system .. just!! .. but the 5970 in the same o/c system would win you are right.

^^ Haha...frankly I was thinking the same...So even the authors here at TOMs are Idiots who have said that going above 3.66GHz is not worth it...lolz...

No point saying you anything when you dont want to take it...
And I was talking about including 2x HD 5850s FYI...

UD5 - Even UD3R is capable of 4GHz...And what is the use of going extreme ?? breaking record ? is that OP's main aim or just to play games at highest possible settings ?

The above setup with the i7 at even 3.8GHz will beat the original setup by a good margin and will still be cheaper...

Samsung HDDs!!

LOL

You just proved to me that you dont actually work with computers on a daily basis cause otherwise you'd never use samsung drives.

Anyone who uses Samsung HDD's should not be allowed near a computer.

Now shhhh .. You're lowering my IQ.

Thanks.
