So basically, recently i got a benq xl2546k and decided to try it out since it seems to be the best gaming monitor out there currently, but after a couple of months i noticed it wasnt actually 240hz or 144hz on the 240hz option in nvidia (i went to a friends house who had 144hz and i was baffled by how smooth his game was compared to mine. I even decided to get a HDMI 2.0 which did not help at all.

My specs are: Rtx 3070, i5 10600k
Windows 11
16gb ram viper 3200mhz
ive got 500gb worth of viper storage aswell
I have no idea on what the problem could be

EDIT: I FOUND OUT THAT THE HDMI CABLE I GOT WAS HDMI-HDTV

This monitor?

https://esupportdownload.benq.com/esupport/ESPORTS DISPLAY/UserManual/XL2536/UM_EN_210129104314.pdf

Verify that I found the applicable User Manual.

Refer to the manual to check both the physical connections being used and the corresponding configuration/menu settings being used.

Likewise for the GPU configuration.

Hopefully you just need to change some configuration setting(s).

Also, if the monitor has its' own drivers then manually download the drivers via the manufacturer's website. Install and configure as required.

I simply do not know.

Are you able to provide any relevant technical links or product links regarding the cable in question?

Strangely enough the following link appeared as a result of some Google searches:

https://www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna14041141

Strange because I set the search criteria to the "Past Year".

Still the link may be relevant in the sense that specs, nomenclature. and so forth may have evolved in some manner.

Key may be within the applicable technical specs.

Reference the following link:

https://www.cmple.com/learn/learning-center-hdmi-cables-with-ethernet

Note for example (from the link):

"First, an important disclaimer. For the Ethernet connection to work properly, you must be connecting two devices which each support Ethernet over HDMI (they’ll be labeled HEC compatible), and not many do just yet. In many ways, you are planning for the future as much as for the present when buying an HDMI cable with Ethernet. Here are the ways these forward-looking cables can work, though. "

It's a bit tough to know what the issue is since you are going by comparting different monitors and "his game" and different systems. Did you try using Display Port instead of HDMI? What game are you saying does not feel smooth on your computer? What is the game options set to not just Windows? Could be a bunch of different things, different game settings, different games, maybe what you think is due to the refresh rate is actually something else.
