I just built a new lil' PC out of used parts and have a hdd lying around.
Now I bought an actual 1TB SSD as bootdrive, but want to use the computer until it arrives. I got my windows 10 OEM license lying around which I will be installing onto the SSD. Now to the question: Can I install a different OS (for example Linux) onto the used HDD and swap it out for the SSD as soon as it arrives and just install Windows 10 there? If so. How can I manage this?

Solution
Just download Linux Mint 18 and burn a DVD and install it on your current hard drive. You will have a lot of fun with the OS and your computer until your new drive arrives.

When your new drive arrives, unplug the drive with Linux on it and boot up your new drive with Windows. Later on you can re-connect your Linux drive and either dual boot or just wipe it clean.

I recommend Cinnamon;

Gotta honestly say that I'm loving Linux so far. It's really fun to experiment with... Other than the fact that I'm having "tabbing out" issues where my mouse won't work on the new Window, that I can't seem to resolve. Thanks for the cinnamon tip, though. It's a heck of a lot fun.

sincerely, Lion
