Hello anyone and everyone! I'd like to preface this with acknowledging that I am quite inexperienced when it comes to building a PC. I am experiencing troubles with my current build and would appreciate some help from some of you veteran PC guys.

My Build:
Processor: AMD FX-6300
Graphics Card: Gigabyte GT 420 @GB 128-bit DDR3
Power Supply: EVGA 500 watt
Hard Drive: WD Blue 1TB
Motherboard: MSI Socket AM3+/AMD 760G/DDR3, etc etc.
RAM: HP 8GB PC3-10600 DDR3- 1333

Now that i've given you guys the meat and potatoes of my build, here comes the issue. Everything powers on as it should be when turned on. When plugged up to my monitor via VGA cable (I also tried HDMI), all I get is the typical "no signal" message. This is quite frustrating seeing as it happens whether the avg cable is plugged into the graphics card or the motherboard. I tried doing some troubleshooting where someone told me I should try to reset the lithium CMOS battery on the mobo. Low and behold, this brought upon another issue, now the psu shows no signs of life. Although, I did try the old paperclip in the green wire connector pin and black wire connector pin, which revealed that the psu will still run. I've exhausted all my knowledge and at this point I'm just read to give up. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. If need be, I would ship it to someone and pay them to handle my problems for me and get it running as it should be. Please Help!!

Narrow down the possibilities:

Try the VGA cable on another system to ensure that the cable is functional.

Try another monitor.

Your objective should be to focus on eliminating possibilities. Swap components in and out (one at a time) to determine what works and what does not work.

My thought is that if none of the motherboard or graphics card connections work then the monitor is the issue.

Or the cable.

The key is for you to take a deep breath and methodically work through checking and testing as much as you can by changing only one thing at a time.

Take a closer look at the monitor and its configuration settings. The User Guide/Manual may be helpful.

What happens if you remove the video card?
Have you checked your re-start button to see if it is stuck? Or just remove this connector from the motherboard for testing.
Have you verified if your ram is good?
Have you verified the monitor works?
Have you verified the video cable works?

Currently, my main issue is even getting the psu to power on. It seems the only way I can get the fan to spin is via the paperclip test. Seems it's my fault for trusting a youtube video that said to remove cmos battery and replace it in order to rid of my problem of "no signal". Only thing that removing the cmos battery did was screw up my psu. At least before, everything turned on and operated.

LOL, now I see the reason. Dude, how do you assume the power switch will work without connection between the case(power button) to the mb? Unless you are setting a power switch on mb directly which I doubt. Read the mb manual and you should have at least two cables connecting case and mb.
