I have multiple hard drives, 4 of them. 2xSSD's and 2x Mechanical. My boot drive is 120Gb and is filling up without me adding anything to it. All my programs are installed on my second SSD, my download folder is on a mechanical drive. I have all my directories for downloads on a different drive than my boot. Even though I have tried to get nothing to install on it, I have gone from 8.5Gb this morning to 0Mb by 10:30 tonight. I haven't even downloaded anything today. I have already taken space saving measures, such as compressing everything and setting the System protection thing to 5%, there are no programs or files I can remove from the drive, what do I do?

Hi there ArrKayCee,

Have you deleted previous restore points? In case you haven't, you can do that: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/5482/make-system-restore-use-less-space-in-windows-7/

Here are some more things you can do: http://www.howtogeek.com/125923/7-ways-to-free-up-hard-disk-space-on-windows/

Check your Network Offline File Cache. For some reason sometimes Windows decides to turn it on and save everything it can find on your network locally.

ArrKayCee - i've got the exact same problem, last week my C partition was showing 46 GB free of 122 GB, and today 37.5 GB - just ran the disk cleanup and it's showing 37.1 GB free, even though one of the folders was showing 1.75 GB for offline web files

if you find a solution, please post it in this thread

I already have my restore points set to 0, I have my own backup in place. And as for the other website I am not even set up with sync center, so I have no offline files. And as an update, my computer, after I just booted after having it off for about 12 hours, now has 4.41 Gb free. I have no idea why but it just does now. But I'd be willing to bet that will shrink by the end of the day.
Thanks for your help, though.

Found the solution. Read it and then do it and cry tears of joy.

I GOT THE ANSWER! Thanks to D_Know_WD! On the second website he sent me to it told me to download WinDirStat. I ran that and saw that I had multiple temp files, all more than a month old, taking up 70.5Gb!!!!! That's just plain stupid, Windows needs to manage them better. I backed up my files then started deleting anything that had a last modified date of before 10/5/15, and boom. 74.5 Gb free. It's beautiful. Make sure to back up your computer, and only delete files that are dated a few days old. If they're from the day of, keep them, no matter how large. They're important. Thanks again to D_Know_WD.

thanks for coming back and posting

don't know why i missed the rest of that page that D_Know_WD linked to. Unfortunately WinDirStat only helped me recapture 1.6 GB. But reading further on that link, it reminded me i hadn't used CCleaner in awhile - that recaptured me 4.4GB, so i'm back up to 42.3 GB free

but there has to be more to be found - when i first noticed this trend, i was in the low 54 GB free range, so somewhere there's another approx 10 GB waiting to be recovered

I'd love to help with that, but I don't know what to do. Maybe it's recovery files? Sorry.
