I turned off hybernation a few weeks ago and that freed up some space. Then I started using the sleep mode and I ran out of storage again. Currently I have only 8 MB free space (my C drive is 80 GB). Running Disk Cleanup does absolutely nothing. I have no media files on C and only a few programs installed - two browsers, Office and a few others, nothing unusual.

Download and run a program like TreeSize Free to reveal what is using up your space.

I have 30 or 40 installed programs and have never used more than 55 GB of space on C.

Windows alone still takes up less than 30 GB as far as I know.

Review your system restore settings. Adjust reserved space.
System restore can reserve significant amount of space.

But generally you should increase OS partition size.
Consider upgrading to a higher capacity OS drive.
