my canon pixma mp 620 is very noisey

The printer is 6 years old and prints perfect BUT.... When i turn it on or start to do a print job it is very noisey and takes a long time to sort itself out , sometimes it takes so long to sort itself out that it "times out" and throws an error in the reliability log. The error relates to the printer taking to long to start printing.
This is what i have tried so far ... removed ink and printer head to look for loose objects and jammed paper . Examined the belts. I have kept opening and shutting the top to put my hand on various moving parts to try and work out what is causing the noise.
As i say its 6 years old and it prints perfect when it decides to stop making the racket.

You are on the right track....

Can you describe the noise per se: e.g., Is the noise a rattle, a buzz, hum, squeak....?

I would start looking for loose screws and connectors, etc. Could be loose but once the printer warms up then they tighten and the printer quiets.

You can also use a cardboard tube or wooden dowel (in lieu of a stethoscope) to pinpoint the noisy area by sound versus feel.

the noise sounds like gears slipping and I have not yet figured out how to take it apart , the only visible screws are 4 at the rear , today I bought a new canon ts8050 so I will have a go at taking the noisy printer apart , if I fix it I can use it on another pc , if I fail it will go in the bin , thanks for answer.

ps it does not go quiet when warmed up.
