My Canon wireless printer goes offline everytime ? help

I have a canon mp495 wireless printer that keeps going offline each time i shut down my laptop I have already unchecked 'print offline' i have also unistalled all the drivers & removed printer from devices & reinstalled everything with no luck. My desktop prints from it fine,, win 7 pro x64

Are you using any static IP addresses - especially on the Canon?

Get the Canon, the laptop, and the desktop all up and running.

Check the assigned IPs, the subnet masks, and default gateway for each device.

I have a feeling that the Canon is looking at the laptop as its gateway....
