I've read through other solutions on the site, but none of them seemed to work for me. Maybe by shedding light on my own situation I can get some help:
Last night, my computer randomly went to a blank, gray screen. I was watching a video at the time, and I could still hear the audio fine. I turned it off and went to sleep. Came back at it today, and even though the computer would start, I could not see anything on the screen. After testing various other HDMI and DVI cables, I deduced that it was not my monitors (I tried two). At this point, I remove the GPU - an XFX Radeon 7970 - and plugged my HDMI cord into the MoBo. The computer then turned on, and alas - the trusty windows icon appeared.

Does anyone know what the issue could be? Something with the motherboard, maybe? Or is my GPU just fried? I'd rather not go dropping 2-3 hundred dollars on another, but if I have to...

Also worth mentioning, when my computer did turn on after unplugging the GPU, it wanted me to repair my version of windows (windows 10). After doing this, I thought somehow maybe my AMD drivers got corrupted or something, so I uninstalled them and tried the card again. It didn't work.

Thank you all in advance!

but would the drivers go bad while watching a video ?
