my cd/dvd player is constantly trying to read a disk even when there is no disk and wont even open

my cd/dvd player was working fine but now it wont open and constantly tries to read something even when there is no disk inside.

At ~$20 for a replacement, it's almost not worth troubleshooting but I might suggest opening the tray manually and blowing out the optical drive real good since I suspect something is caught which is making the optical drive believe there is a disk inside. It's best to do that with the PC off. If that doesn't help I think I'd just replace the optical drive.
