My CD-Rom drive won't work

I have a 52X Cd-rom drive which used to work but suddenly doesn't. The boot up screen detects, it shows under my device manager and My Computer. I've tried uninstall it and reinstalling the windows drivers to no avail. Any suggestions? I've been working on this for days, with no success. Sometimes, it will work breifly, then stop working. I've tried to put another CD-Rom in but that won't work either. Any tech help would be appreciated.

Do you mean, is pin1 where it is supposed to be on the drive and the MOBO? The answer is yes. It will show as "ATAPI CD-rom" under my BIOS bootup, and is detected under the device manager, but BIOS setup does not list the device???? Any suggestions?
