If I try to listen to anything on chrome for example YouTube, radio etc... No sound will play through my headphones and on playback devices it shows no noise movement if I disconnect the headphones or change the default to the computer it will start to play again.

If I go onto IE then it will play through headphones with no problems.

Please don’t suggest the following:

  • Go to "Start".."Control Panel"..."Internet Options"...Click the "Advanced Tab"...scroll down to multimedia and put a check mark in play sounds on websites.

Go to Start -> Run -> and enter Services.msc
    Scroll down to "Windows Audio".
Double click and change the startup type to Automatic

Make sure you have the latest Java and Flash installed on your computer

    Volume mixer...

I have already checked all the obvious things that might be causing the issue, nothing is muted in the sound mixer and the headphones work in the same port from any other sounds such as email notifications, Skype calls, IE etc...

Did you ever fix this problem? The exact same thing id happening to me

I use a lot of Razer Chroma peripherals and didn't realize that there was a separate audio mixer inside of the proprietary Razer software. For whatever reason, I found that Google Chrome was muted in my Razer Synapse software. If you have proprietary software for your headphones check to see if you are muted in there.

I'm sure that you have fixed this by now, this is more for future visitors with the same problem.

I had the same problem. I solved it by checking new add-ons recently installed. The culprit was a WebEx Meeting Chrome app. I uninstalled the add-on and restarted Chrome. All good!

[Update: 3.23.17 - The problem returned a day after disabling the Chrome app. I disabled all apps and it still persists. Will continue troubleshooting.
