I'm building a budget build hopefully able to cope with BF3 at medium to high settings @ 1360 x768 with minimal AA and AF. Guessing will roughly achieve this between 30 - 60 FPS.
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 975 Black Edition - £114
CPU Cooler : Akasa AK-CCX-4002HP Venom CPU Cooler -£40
Motherboard: Gigabyte 990XA-UD3 AMD 990X (Socket AM3+) DDR3 -£95
RAM: G.Skill RipJawsX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-17000C9 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit - £60
GPU :HIS ATI Radeon HD 6850 1024MB GDDR5 - £125
HDD: 2 x Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 32MB Cache in RAID 0 - £84
Optical Drive: Already have one - £0
Case : Antec 300 Three Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - £52
PSU: Antec TruePower New Modular 650W '80 Plus Bronze' £65
Total: £635
The thought behind this is that if the need arises i can slot an 8 core bulldozer in, add another 4GB RAM and crossfire another 6850 onto the system at some point in the future whilst still being able to perform now.
In the meantime I will be running as above whilst overclocking the CPU slightly to somewhere just over the 4GHz range.
Due to the resolution I will be playing at i think medium/ high settings could be attainable with this setup due to the resolution and minimal AA/AF, although it's just an educated guess as the game isn't out yet.
I think this is a well balanced PC for the price and appreciate any advice or changes that you think should be made to this build before i purchase.
Thanks,
