So I just added a 2.5 Sata HDD (laptop) hard drive into my PC. My power connector is plugged into it along with the data cable. I rebooted my pc and then a icon popped up saying "installing device software" for the hard drive I just plugged in but I can't find it on my computer. Any suggestions? My computer does in fact detect it, I just can't manage to find it in the obvious spots where it should be. Any reply is much appreciated, thanks guys/gals!

hit the windows key, then type into the search box, "Create and format hard disk partisans", in that menu (Disk Management) you should see your new hard drive. format it, windows should assign is a drive letter automatically... if it does not, assign it one after formatting. You should be good to go.

I can't find the new hard drive, Only the one I originally had. I know it's not broken because it is powered up as we speak and it literally just installed into my computer. I am so confused!!!

press the windows key type computer management
Under storage - Disk Management
Find your new drive - Right click Mark As active - format etc for the purpose you want for it

Pretty much the same instructions as ingtar33

that's a terrible idea if the hard drive doesn't have an OS on it

Check Sata is enabled in Bios
Try another Sata port on your MB

You have not specified what use you want for this drive - Formatted or Not you can still install an OS onto it from Boot CD/DVD or USB other software

The Fact your trying to access the drive in Windows at all means the drive needs to be marked as active - so you can actually assign or do anything to it
