My computer can't run dvd

My windows 8.1 system can not find my dvd despite the fact that I have the driver (it tells me that is the the best and it can't update it)

It isn't stupid! All of them are connected and of course the dvd is on the drive

Try the following for me:
Right click on the start button and select Disk Management.
Look at the list of disks at the bottom of that window. Does the dvd drive show up there?

Yes, it is, but in the detail menu it has only cdrom.sys file

Ok, staying in that screen, does the DVD drive have a letter assigned to it? (E: for example)
If so, then perhaps try another disc. Bear in mind that you will need to load a 3rd party app to play dvd discs (Like VLC)
If not, then right click on the dvd drive and assign it a drive letter.

Yes, it has E. I tried all the letters but nothing yet

Try putting another disc into the drive, or even a normal music cd.

Nothing. I tried with other 2 dvds and 2 cds...

Oh dear.
Then I would suggest that the unit has said its good byes and you need to replace.
They are inexpensive enough and any unit will do.
