My computer has been installing updates 2 of 6 for 5 hours. How do I restart the installation?

I can't find a simple way to exit the installation process. I've tried turning off the power and hitting Ctrl-Alt-Delete. Does anyone have any solutions or strategies to deal with this issue? My computer is a Lenovo Ideapad, windows 8. She's a bit rough but has been reliable enough.

Is it a case that each time your shutdown your PC it tries to update? or is it an update that has froze and your attempting to recover without shutting down completely?
