Hey tech experts of Toms Hardware, I have a question for you
Yesterday I turned on my desktop and it started running ridiculously slow, to the point where it took ages to minimize a window… it then proceeds to blue screen, and when I tried to turn it on again it would, but only for about 30 seconds, and with nothing showing up on my monitors.
So I pull it out to investigate, take the side of the case off and instantly I smell burning. Upon touching the metal, lower half of my cpu cooler, I practically burn my hand. So I think, let everything cool for a bit (my first response was, oh it probably thermal throttled then died when it got to hot)… then go back to work on it. I let it cool overnight (with a fan on it) and start it up about midday. Starts working, but then when I hit enter on startup launch repair (before OS is loaded) it loads a bit then crashes, does this multiple times. So I investigate further, see if my cpu is cooked or something.
I end up pulling everything out and inspecting the cpu… looks fine, so does the little slot where the cpu goes, so I slot the cpu in again (properly, I know what you’re going to say) and put everything back exactly how it was before. The problem is now it wont startup, at all. No fans, no blinky lights, nothing.
So to my question, anyone have any ideas as to whats wrong? What I need to replace… If I need to replace anything
