Okay, so my friend helped me build this computer a few weeks ago and it doesn’t work nearly as good as it should be

The specs are as follows:

I'm experiencing:

- Constant crashing (I do editing, and a lot of the times Vegas would either crash mid-editing or mid-rendering. Programs like Discord will occasionally crash out of nowhere; FL Studio will crash if I’m working on something heavy; games will sometimes crash regardless of whether it is something like Dark souls or the Henry Stickmin collection)

- Slow processing power (This May be Vegas’s problem, but the preview window is very laggy and I cannot view it without first building like a 10-hour long dynamic RAM preview.)

- Delay with MIDI instruments in FL studio. (I have a MIDI keyboard and cannot record music due to the 1-Second delay that occurs when I press a key. I have tried lowering my buffer size and bringing it to 256, but it still takes FL Studio half a second to register what key I’m pressing)

Solution
A few question.

What is your Windows 10 version?

Why a 256GB SSD for the OS and how full is it right now? A 500GB would have been better. Since you can't full a SSD because it will become slower than a normal HDD.

Is your RAM XMP profile turned on? 3200MHz RAM running at 3200MHz and not 2133MHz?

Your temperature. You use the stock cooler. Your CPU is probably thermal throttling on these programs big time. Probably see 90C+?

I wish your friend knew about the new Nvidia GPU's coming out. That 2070 super at 700 dollars is 500 dollars elsewhere. The new RTX 3070 is 499 dollars and its coming out next month and it's as good as a 2080TI.

Your friend helped you but I wish you would have posted this build here before buying it. You could...

Your friend helped you but I wish you would have posted this build here before buying it. You could have bought a 3700X CPU. A better SSD for your OS. A cheaper 2070 Super or just a GPU place holder until the 3070 was released at 200 less dollars for so much better performance. That RAM could have gotten 3600MHz instead of 3200MHz. All of this for the same price as the build you linked.

Look at this build. 30 more bux. Look at all the changes.

1. Windows 10 Pro, 1909, 18363.1016

2. I have a 256GB ssd as a system drive because it's what a guy recommended a while back. It's a bit under half full since I mostly move my stuff to the 2TB drive.

3. Yeah, the motherboard turned on XMP automatically, and it's running at 3200.

4. We've found the issue. My CPU was running at nearly 100c on prime95.

As a side note, about the graphics card, the card was $500 when he bought it and the 3 series hadn't been announced yet.

Yeah 4 is the issue for sure :) Replace that stock cooler for a good air cooler and you won't have anymore issue with this.

I totally understand about the GPU.
