My Computer isn't running certain games anymore

My computer has been having problems for months now but when I try to play different games like spec ops the line or the witcher 2 it try's to load up but it just crashes to the desktop. I used to be able to play nba 2k11 but even now I can't. I also was able to play different mmo's but now I can't even play existing ones that I have already played on the computer before.

The weird part is I can play saints row the third on the highest settings, and some other smaller games like minecraft and the walking dead. Lately I have noticed my computer running extremely slow and taking forever to just go to another website when using the browser.

Last year around Christmas I had to remove one of my ram cards cause it would cause my computer to blue screen. I'm just wondering what I need to do to get my computer back to normal because I want to be able to start playing skyrim and I can't because it just crashes to the desktop when starting the game up. I would appreciate it if I could get some help.

try updating the drivers, perhaps all the modern games have updated to using a new one and it hasnt automatically downloaded them due to a firewall etc?


if it persists it could be maybe that the graphics card has overheated or been damaged and therefore is always using the integrated, desktop graphics for gaming, and can't handle it so crashes... if its not the drivers then somethings gone wrong and you should take it in for a checkup, on the other hand something may be wrong with the RAM, get it checked out professionally though before you buy loads of new RAM. nice machine btw

Thanks for the reply I have updated all the drivers and I still get issues and I have taken it to someone who works with computers for a living and they look at it but I don't think they found anything wrong other then the ram card and I have reformatted the hard drive numerous times without success, so I'm thinking of getting two new ram cards so I have 8gb's and I'm thinking of getting another hard drive and if that fixes the issues then great but if it doesn't then its probably the graphics card and I probably will get that looked at.

What kind of Operating System is your computer running on? Or, was there and new updates or software changes just before all the trouble? It sounds to me you're running Windows 7, or another 64 bit OS.

xylophone is going in the right direction with his questions. Over time as you install/uninstall/make changes to your computer- it will start to get bogged down with unnecessary processes running in the background. A simple solution would be to download and install a program called Gamebooster- which stop some programs when you want, so you can play games like before.
Also, how often do you defrag and run anti-virus scans? You might try doing that, as hard drives get used, fragments will be thrown all over the place- the cure is to reorganize them by defraging the hard drive, this will help performance a little because your hard drive won't have to sacrifice time looking for fragments all over the drives.

Also, open up your case and clean out any dust, using a can of compressed air will help speed up the process greatly. Dust = heat = sluggish performance and may shorten lifetime of parts = an unacceptable gaming experience.

i would say you need a fresh install and then learn how to keep a tidy pc. also getting new ram would help. adata is overpriced junk better to get some vengance, balistix, or some other decent brand... even kingston value ram would work as long as you get 2 matched pairs to use dual channel mode.

Thanks for the suggestions i used some of them and i decided to buy 2 new ram cards from Corsair which will give me 8 gb's and I also bought a new graphics card which is the XFX Radeon HD 7770 Ultra OC Edition and now I can play games I couldn't before. I also cleaned out the dust there was a lot. Now I just need to figure out why my computer is taking ten minutes to startup.

Run a defrag:
Computer > Right Click on Drive C > Properties > Tools > Defragment now...

Disable junk from Starting up:

Click Start > Type in: "System Configuration" > Hit Enter > Startup > Uncheck garbage you don't need to startup with (example: updaters, iTunes helper etc..

Also check for virus, programs that are running that you don't need, and just all round junk that may exist in your computer.
