My Computer Keeps Waking from Sleep

Hey, everybody.

I'm not sure where else to put this thread, since I don't know exactly what's causing the issue...

The problem is that my computer keeps waking itself from sleep. I've gone through the Device Manager and made sure that nothing has the ability to wake the computer from sleep, yet, it still keeps waking itself up for some reason.

I've tried checking which devices are able to wake the system by using an elevated command prompt and entering "powercfg -devicequery wake_armed" but it always comes back with "none." Using "powercfg -lastwake" doesn't show the name of whatever woke the system either; it just shows the wake history count.

Any ideas what else could be causing this? It's starting to get really annoying, because I don't want to have to start shutting my computer down instead of putting it to sleep if it's going to keep waking itself up.

Thanks in advance!

Press and hold the Windows key then press the "R" key.

A "Run" window will open. In the "Open" box type "eventvwr.msc" without the quotes. Click "OK".

You will then be in the Event Viewer which can be quite overwhelming. However if you spend a few minutes "exploring" you will quickly start to understand how it is all presented and the choices you can make.

In your case go into the Windows Logs and then Applications. No guarantee that the necessary diagnostic entries are in that section per se. Could be elsewhere or even in multiple sections.

One part that is often overlooked is that you can select an event and right-click it for more details.

Since you are not home when the "wake ups" occur you will need to go into the...

No, I hadn't even thought to do that.

How would I check such a thing? I'd first need to know what time the computer wakes up though. It only gets put to sleep when I'm not home or when I go to bed, so I'm not present to actually see it wake up and note the time.

Since you are not home when the "wake ups" occur you will need to go into the system and look for those events that occured at a time prior to you just logging in.

It will take some searching about - however, again, you will probably start getting a better sense of it all and see things that you will wonder about: e.g., some program starts running that you know you did not start.

Basically the idea is that if some program or process is running (and you know you did not initiate it) then that program or process probably woke the computer or something else woke the computer to run that program or process.

May take a bit of research should help identify the cause. Plus you will probably learn more about everything that goes on and is going on in your computer.
