This morning, I just installed my MSI z97 gaming 5 motherboard and an intel i7- 4790k. After when I try and turn it on, nothing happens. My specs are Gskill ripjaw 2x4gb 1866mhz, radeon hd 7770, i7 4790k, a rosewill hive 80+ bronze 550w semi-modular psu, and a 1tb seagate hdd. What could be my issue? I've had the mobo in my basement sitting there for 5 months but it has not been opened, I was just saving until I got my i7. Could it be my ram or something? Update- I just tried again and I saw a flashing red light on my motherboard; does this mean it is not dead?

ya might need to clear cmos and pull the motherboard battery. some mother board ya need to reset everything in bios when ya add new hardware.
if that don't work coul beproblkem with card psu .
butr first clear the cmos ect.. if clearing cmos don't work then reseat ram and video card.

So I did all of the things you said and it still will not turn on. I tried the paperclip test and my psu is fine. Idk if it's my mobo or cpu acting up. I got the cpu yesterday at best buy and the mobo from newegg awhile ago and I just opened it today.

paper clip test only tests that the power supply turns on

even with a power supply tester like the doctor power 2 form thermal take barely put a load on it and it only test to see if all your voltages are in range .

only way to fully test under load is to build a test bech specifically for power supplys so ya can test the wattage and volts under load .

yeah peps with flashing lights on mobo refer to your mother board manual as well helped a guy the other day when he had a hard ware change and he just had to pull the cmos battery and also clear and reset the cmos with the cmos jumpers biuos can hang sometimes .

My psu worked this morning for my amd pc. I hd a fx 8320 and msi 970a g46 mobo and it worked, and then I switch to the intel i7 and msi gaming 5 and it didnt boot

So now I come over after being gone for 2 hrs, I reset the cmo with the scewdriver and it turns on. Then nothing appeared on my screen so I shut it off and it wont turn on again. The blue cmo light flashed also after

how long your had the power supply how large is it ect power supplys degrade over time . and then can go bad. I try resetting your cmos one or 2 more time because seen a lot of newer bios hang hell mine does it have to pull the cmos battery and jump to cmpos clear jumper and hold the power button in to completely discharge the power from the system when it wont clear properly ussaly leave it like that while I got out side and smoke or something come back in after awhile and its finally cleared . some don't clear easily guy that I helped the other day had that problem . way capacitors hold power takes awhile for em to discharge on a mainboard some times specially with solid capacitos they been using lately I would try that first before ya try to figure out oif it the power supply

I've had this power supply since I first started my build, so probably a little over 3 years or so. I just reset my cmos and took out the battery and now I am waiting to see what that does. Update- I got it to consistently turn on. I took out my fan controller and unplugged it from the psu and it will turn on now; does that mean it didn't have enough power before to boot?

I do not have jumpers with this mobo, it said to use a screwdriver on it, and when I do a little light glows blue

So I was browsing around with this boot error and some said "oh wait I know what it is, its a conflict with your old install and the new one. you have the old drivers from your old motherboard on the hard drive still. What you need to do is re-install the operating system and download the correct drivers for your new motherboard". So i am going to trying running windows off of a bootable usb and see what happens.

I believe I fixed the problem. I changed my sata storage settings from AHCI to IDE and it booted up and now im installing the drivers, etc.

Solution
ide remove all your drivers ect and reinstall rm since ya switched to a i7
that me cpmplete board and cpu change and problly even ram also mother board chipsets go to device manager and uninstall everything ya can or just do a fresh install now guase youll have left over amd drivers if ya don't iunistall that stuff that and it should still be ahci mode ide mode will severly slow dow your hard drives back to the stone age figure of speech wise
