Hi,

So I bought a new LG OLED55c8. I want to connect it to my computer because I want to use it as an additional screen. I find the TV in the "add device" in the control panel. My TV also recognizes that my computer is attempting to connect. However, the connection fails and I'm prompted to try again. I'm running Windows 10.

I'm fairly sure my computer is at fault as my SO's laptop has no trouble connecting to the TV.

Things I've tried so far..
Enabled everything under "advanced sharing" in the networking center.
Disabled firewall.

Can you help me?

Solution
Oh ok. I learnt something here thanks.

Some information in these two links might help.

Laptops have built-in wifi so they natively support this feature.

Desktops without built-in wifi is bit more difficult, need Wi-Fi Direct certified Miracast device. Your suspicion about the a6100 not supporting wifi direct might be correct. But see if any of the directions help finding out in the above links.

Difficult to find out which adapters support it. But came across this eventually...

Specs:
MOBO: MSI Z77A-G45, Socket-1155
Processor: i53570 @ 3.4ghz
Ram: 8192
Graphics: Nvidia geforce GTX 1060
Running on win10
Using a a6100 usb-based wireless network card (I'm starting to believe this is the sinner).

I'm not using a video cable. I'm connecting via wireless..

You wont get video transmitted over wireless or lan direct to the TV, it's network connectivity isn't meant for this.

You need something like Chromecast which connects to the TV's hdmi port and then can cast your PC to TV over network but using TV as a monitor this way will be laggy.

You need hdmi over Ethernet or hdmi cable long enough without transmission problems.

My wife was able to connect to the TV and duplicated her laptop computer screen on the TV via wireless. I did some research and I believe you need Miracast-compatible devices to do this.

From wikipedia:

"Miracast is a standard for wireless connections from devices (such as laptops, tablets, or smartphones) to displays (such as TVs, monitors or projectors), introduced in 2012 by the Wi-Fi Alliance. It can roughly be described as "HDMI over Wi-Fi", replacing the cable from the device to the display"

So I'm thinking my desktop computer isnt able to use Miracast. Especially since I've read that none of Netgears USB based network cards support Miracast. I think I'll try and buy a network card that supports Miracast and see how it works out.

Got the Asus from list of certified Miracast/wifi direct usb dongle.

Hope all this helps.

So long as the tv connects to a wifi network that includes the computer then windows 10 can cast photos, movies and docs to the tv.This does not mirror the pc display, rather allows streaming of these items to the tv . Works well
