Is it a USB 3.0 external drive and does does it already have a formatted partition created on it?

What external HDD model?

It's a seagate Xbox 1 tb hdd 3.0 usb

Try using the other USB ports, and if you use a hub insure that it is also USB 3.0.

Then I would attach it to a computer and reformat it, if that fails to fix the issue then run SeaTools for Windows to insure that the drive is working properly.
